GHOUM SILK Rug MJ3222 (3'4"x5')
The 3’4” x 5’ Silk Ghoum from Iran. This finely woven all silk piece is different than most. Here they use what looks like the smaller borders, or guard borders, that usually accompany the large main border in a carpet and are now used as the main design elements. Here these normally minor or additional patterns in a design are given the spotlight and are, very successfully, allowed to be the main attraction. Here you will notice rows of what rug people call botehs or what are probably better known by the name paisleys. You will also see rows of vines with flowers mixed in between. Along the border you will see cartouches. This carpet has a green field and a rust border. It has accents of red, navy, teal blue, ivory, light green, various browns, yellow and olive green.
